Poem- The Dragon’s Bane

The Dragon’s Bane

A great city of the earth,

Rival of the elves,

In it the small folk,

Did forever dwell.

A King of wealth and ruin,

A war of blood and bone,

Throughout the city stood,

Throughout the city shone.

In ages past t’was death,

But peace anew was sought,

A gathering of lords and kings,

The small folk and the beasts of wings.

But short was the bloodless time,

Small was this lapse of death,

Revealed was the sword known by few,

And so the blood began anew.

The small folk and the wing-ed beasts,

Destroying each and all the same,

The King of Wealth and Ruin,

Was calling out a name,

“Behold the Dragon’s Bane. Behold the Dragon’s Bane.”

Ancient fire was wrought for death,

Blood spilled for its sake.

Behold the cause of city’s fall,

Behold the cause of ruin.

Behold the sword alit with flame,

Beholden now the Dragon’s Bane

Behold the sword that tore the threads,

Of such a fragile bond,

It was a sword of many names,

Ar’an’dir and Sword of Flame,

Athanar and Narith-nir,

Sword of Ruin, Sword of Fear.

Wielded for war and peace the same,

Of fire and blood t’was wrought the name,

Beholden now the Dragon’s Bane,

Behold the Dragon’s Bane.
